The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Louis Mars, French Army, for gallantry in action while attached to and serving with the 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa in 1942/1943. By his courageous actions in the face of heavy enemy fire, Lieutenant Mars successfully led his men in the capture of an enemy position and maintained this position despite repeated enemy counterattacks.
