Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 1 (January 28, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Thadieus Lukasewski (ASN: 6141464), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Service Battery, 7th Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily in 1943. When informed that a 105-mm. howitzer had been destroyed, Sergeant Lukasewski, acting entirely on his own initiative, proceeded to the rear to obtain a replacement. Although the route was subjected to heavy enemy shell and small arms fire, Sergeant Lukasewski successfully delivered the weapon. His bold action aided materially in repulsing a strong enemy attack. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
