During an engagement with the enemy, Sergeant Lombarski distinguished himself by his superlative coolness and courage under fire. He repeatedly exposed himself to heavy, close range machine gun, rifle, and mortar fire to better lead his men to their objective. When this position became untenable, he brilliantly directed an orderly and successful withdrawal. First Sergeant Lombarski’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
