The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Casimir I. Lenard (ASN: 0-450181), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop (Mechanized), 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Alimena, Sicily, on 21 July 1943. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

Lenard (ASN: 0-450181), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop (Mechanized), 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily in 1943. When given the mission of leading an attack against overwhelming superior enemy forces, Lieutenant Lenard calmly prepared the attack and fearlessly led his men against the enemy. He repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire to more effectively direct the attack. His intrepid behavior inspired his men and contributed materially to the success of his mission. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
