The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps), [then First Lieutenant] William H. Kuby (ASN: 0-417133), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily, during July and August 1943. When he became separated from his unit during an assault on strongly fortified enemy positions, Captain Kuby established a medical aid statin with forward elements. Without regard for his personal safety, he repeatedly evacuated the wounded under heavy enemy fire. His coolness and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
