Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 5 (February 9, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Teoder Kohut (ASN: 11009011), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily in 1943. Displaying superior courage and initiative, Sergeant Kohut led a pack-mule train over hazardous roads and through intense enemy mortar and artillery fire to deliver food, water, and ammunition to his company’s forward position. The timely arrival of these supplies enabled his company to continue its mission. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
