The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant Albert W. Klossner, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 February 1945, in Germany. On that date, First Sergeant Klossner took command of his infantry group after mortar fire killed two platoon leaders and wounded the executive officer. After reassuring his men and removing the wounded officer to a safer position, Sergeant Klossner directed the platoons as hey moved into position to attack. He made several trips trough intense fire to complete this task. He then brought he company headquarters forward and followed the company quickly and efficiently to the assigned position. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
