The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Julius Kolowitz (ASN: 6907863), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Anti-Tank Company, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Normandy, France, on 6 June 1944. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private] Julius Kolowitz (ASN: 6907863), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Anti-Tank Company, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily, during the period from April through August 1943. When several enemy tanks attacked his anti-tank gun position, Corporal Kolowitz, acting sergeant in command of the gun, aided in destroying the tanks by his skillful fire direction and excellent control of his men. Later, after having been ordered to take cover, Corporal Kolowitz was wounded while seeking aid from another unit to combat the enemy. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
