The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class George W. Kennelly, Jr. (ASN: 6141349), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Battery B, 7th Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action in North Africa and Sicily, during the period from February through July 1943. When an ammunition truck had caught fire and was endangering the lives of nearby personnel, Private Kennelly, disregarding his personal safety, leaped into the burning vehicle and removed it to an open area. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Private First Class Kennelly reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
