    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Carter Burdeau Johnson (ASN: 0-23240), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Anti-Tank Company, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Tunisia, North Africa, on 28 January 1943. Although constantly under heavy enemy artillery fire, Captain Johnson repeatedly reconnoitered enemy strong points, and so strategically placed his anti-tank weapons as to completely rout the enemy. During this action, Captain Johnson was mortally wounded. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Johnson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
