The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major (Field Artillery) William M. Albergotti (ASN: 0-163669), United States Army, for gallantry in action on the evening of ** April 1943, near *****, Tunisia. Major Albergotti proceeded forward of his battalion position to make a reconnaissance of new gun positions for forward displacement of the battalion. Hampered by extreme darkness and with fragmentary knowledge of the terrain to be encountered, he arduously search through the night, finally locating suitable positions at dawn. Meticulously directing the occupation of position, he subjected himself to constant enemy aerial bombardment and intense artillery fire. Through his calm, cool and inspiring leadership the displacement was accomplished without misadventure, notwithstanding the excellent enemy observation. His actions were an inspiration to all, worth of the highest traditions of our armed forces.
