The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Douglas N. Hunt (ASN: 12023365), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Saint Cloud, Algeria, 8 November 1942. During the Oran Offensive, Technician Fifth Grade Hunt, in the face of continual enemy fire, went to the aid of an officer who had been seriously wounded and was lying in a position well exposed to enemy guns. While removing he officer to a position of greater protection, Technician Fifth Grade Hunt was wounded. His unflinching performance of his duties gave confidence to the men with whom he served. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
