The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Henry R. Taylor (ASN: 38327170), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 10 November 1944 in France. During the attack on Xocourt, France, Staff Sergeant Taylor’s squad was temporarily delayed by two enemy machine guns. Moving forward alone, he destroyed the first position with hand grenades. Through intense fire he charged the second, firing steadily, and, although wounded, persisted in his efforts until the crew was annihilated. His courage and aggressiveness were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
