Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 67 (December 1, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Stanley W. Jablonowski (ASN: 35303574), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily, on 5 August 1943. When his company was immobilized by intense enemy machine gun and rifle fire, Private Jablonski proceeded to lay a wire line from his company’s mortars to an observation post so that effective fire might be brought upon the enemy. Although he lost his life in this mission, Private Jablonski’s outstanding bravery and devotion to duty contributed materially to his company’s success in this encounter. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
