The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant August N. Harvieux (ASN: 6091381), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, on or about 30 March 1943. When enemy machine guns impeded the advance of his battalion, Sergeant Harvieux exposed himself to intense enemy fire and inflicted heavy damage upon the enemy. His courage and coolness, at the cost of his life, exemplified the highest traditions of the military service.
