The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Raymond S. Haskell (ASN: 11053760), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, during World War II. Private Haskell, at the cost of his life, destroyed two enemy machine gun nests that were inflicting heavy casualties on this company. His action enabled his battalion to gain its objective. Private Haskell’s exemplary conduct in the face of heavy enemy fire reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
