    Commander Submarine Forces Pacific: Serial 02238 (September 8, 1945)

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Commander Edwin Monroe Westbrook, Jr. (NSN: 0-81145), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the performance of his duties in the U.S.S. CREVALLE (SS-291) during a War Patrol of that Submarine during World War II. As Assistant Approach Officer, his excellent judgment and thorough knowledge of attack problems assisted his Commanding Officer considerably in conducting attacks which resulted in the sinking and damaging of enemy ships totaling approximately 1,500 tons. In addition, a special mission was successfully completed. His coolness and high devotion to duty contributed directly to the success of his vessel in evading enemy countermeasures. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
