(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant, Junior Grade Joseph J. Fitzpatrick, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in connection with military operations against the enemy as Commanding Officer of Motor Torpedo Boat ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY-NINE (PT-189) and Officer in Tactical Command of Motor Torpedo Boat ONE HUNDRED FORTY-NINE (PT-149), at Wewak, New Guinea, on 6 July 1944. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
