The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Hugh Marston Robinson (NSN: 0-81197), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving on a Motor Patrol Boat Torpedo (PT-Boat) in the British Solomon Islands. On three nights in November 1942, under enemy illumination and in the face of enemy fire, Lieutenant Robinson Commanded a Torpedo Boat participating in attacks upon enemy destroyers or light cruisers. Each of these engagements resulted in one or more hits on enemy craft. Lieutenant Robinson scored a hit on an enemy destroyer at night on 10 November 1942. His capable leadership on each occasion resulted in the safe return of his command to its base, and without personnel casualties. His gallant leadership and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
