TAUSSIG (DD-746) during continuous enemy air attacks on 15 and 16 April 1945. While in an exposed position as northern picket for a Carrier Task Group operating off Okinawa Gunto, the TAUSSIG shot down unassisted, four enemy planes and assisted in shooting down another. Two planes were shot down at night in full radar control and two planes during the day while making diving attacks on the ship. By skillful ship-handling and cool judgment in the face of sudden danger he not only fought his ship brilliantly but contributed materially to the successful defense of the Task Group.
