The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Pharmacist’s Mate Robert Meerman, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity on 8 November 1942 while serving aboard the U.S.S. BERNADOU (DD-153) during the assault on and occupation of French Morocco, 8 – 11, 1942. Accompanying a landing party from the BERNADOU during the occupation of Safi, Chief Pharmacist’s Mate Meerman exercised great skill and tireless effort in rendering first aid to many enemy soldiers who had been wounded in the assault.
