The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Charles William Lynn, Jr. (NSN: 0-100427), United States Navy, for gallantry and intrepidity in action. While on patrol in waters adjacent to enemy occupied territory, the Submarine, in which Lieutenant Lynn was serving as Executive Officer, conducted an aggressive and successful submarine war patrol. As a result of Lieutenant Lynn’s foresight, thorough material preparations and instant intelligent action as Diving Officer, he contributed materially to the success of the patrol. His performance of duty throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
