The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Harborough Irwin Lill, Jr. (NSN: 0-123478), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as Gunnery Officer and Executive Officer of the U.S.S. LOWRY (DD-770), in the vicinity of Okinawa from 30 April 1945 to 26 June 1945. During hazardous and arduous duty on Radar Picket Station his coolness in the face of Japanese suicide attacks and his high degree of professional skill contributed greatly to the destruction of forty enemy planes. His inspiring leadership and outstanding devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
