The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant, Junior Grade (MC) Paul H. Koren, United States Naval Reserve, for gallantry in action as Medical Officer of the 7th Beach Battalion during the invasion of Normandy, France, 6 June 1944. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Korean landed on the beach at H-hour-plus-32-minutes and unhesitatingly took his station at the water’s edge. At the constant risk of his life he exposed himself to terrific German machine-gun, rifle and artillery fire to minister to the wounded. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
