    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Commander Robert Donovan King (NSN: 0-70279), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy, during the FIRST War Patrol of the U.S.S. REDFIN (SS-272), in enemy controlled waters from 4 January to 17 February 1944. Commander King as Commanding Officer, skillfully and daringly maneuvered his ship to conduct a surface attack on an enemy destroyer which resulted in serious damage thereto. Enemy gunfire was severe but he ably handled his ship so as to avoid damage. His actions and conduct were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
