The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Landsman Daniel C. Harrington, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving as a landsman from the U.S.S. Pocahontas, near Brunswick, Georgia, 11 March 1862. Landsman Harrington participated in a shore mission to procure meat for the ship’s crew. While returning to the beach, the party was fired on from ambush and several men killed or wounded. Cool and courageous throughout his action, Landsman Harrington rendered gallant service against the enemy and in administering to the casualties.
