(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Ernest Joseph Irvin (NSN: 2743226), United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star (Army Award) for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as a Medical Corpsman attached to Company C, First Battalion, FOURTH Marine Regiment, in action at Corregidor during the defense of the Philippine Islands, on 23 January 1942. Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Irvin’s gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
