The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain Ira Earl Hobbs (NSN: 0-59611), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Chief of Staff to the Commander Task Force SEVENTY-SEVEN during operations against enemy aggressor forces in the Korean Theater from 25 August 1950 to 26 February 1951. Exercising keen foresight, sound judgment and brilliant leadership, Captain Hobbs rendered invaluable assistance in the preparation of operation plans and orders for the deployment and tactical use of ships and aircraft assigned to the force and contributed in large measure to the success of air support and strike missions carried out against enemy troop concentrations, shipping and shore installations. His expert direction of the tactical employment of the Task Force units, tireless efforts and inspiring devotion to duty were essential factors in the completion of the assigned mission of Task Force SEVENTY-SEVEN, and reflect the highest credit upon Captain Hobbs and the United States Naval Service.
