The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Lieutenant Commander Alfred Henry Higgs (NSN: 0-82632), United States Navy, for meritorious service as Assistant Approach Officer of the U.S.S. QUEENFISHY (SS-393), during the SECOND War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy Japanese-controlled waters from 27 October to 2 December 1944. By his sound judgment and thorough knowledge of attack problems, Lieutenant Commander Higgs rendered invaluable assistance to his Commanding Officer in carrying out his aggressive attacks and contributed to the success of the QUEENFISH in sinking four hostile vessels, in damaging two more and in evading severe enemy countermeasures. By his skill and devotion to duty throughout, Lieutenant Commander Higgs upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
