The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Commander Alfred Henry Higgs (NSN: 0-82632), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Assistant Approach Officer of the U.S.S. QUEENFISH (SS-393), during the FIRST War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy Japanese-controlled waters, from 4 August to 3 October 1944. Skillfully judging and analyzing attack problems, Lieutenant Commander Higgs rendered valuable assistance to his Commanding Officer in conducting torpedo attacks which resulted in the sinking of over 45,000 tons of enemy shipping. By his ability and devotion to duty, Lieutenant Commander Higgs contributed materially to the success of the operations and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
