The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant (DC) Howard B. Haisch, United States Navy, for gallantry in action while serving as a Dental Officer aboard the U.S.S. BROOKLYN (CL-40), during the occupation of French Morocco, 8 to 11 November 1942. Struck in the right eye and blinded by an enemy shell fragment during the assault on French Morocco. Lieutenant Commander Haisch courageously continued removing wounded to the dressing station and administering treatment to them before submitting himself to medical attention. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
