The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Warren Arthur Grossetta (NSN: 0-165603), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the U.S.S. CABRILLA (SS-288), during the SIXTH War Patrol of that Submarine off the northwest coast of Luzon, Philippine Islands, from 13 September 1944 to 25 October 1944. As Diving Officer, his calm and expert control of depth during the attacks and evasion afterwards was of invaluable assistance to his Commanding Officer in conducting successful attacks which resulted in the complete destruction of five enemy ships totaling approximately 29,900 tons. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship, and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
