The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Rex H. Gregor, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as a Corpsman attached to a Marine Special Weapons Battalion of the THIRD Marine Division in the South Pacific area on 25 September 1943. Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Gregor was the only medical personnel present to administer medical aid to the wounded resulting from an air attack as a landing was being made on an enemy held island. While under fire, he displayed utmost coolness in caring for the wounded and, without regard for his personal safety, he returned to a burning landing ship to obtain blood plasma required for vital transfusions. His courageous conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
