The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Commander [then Lieutenant] Harold Edbert Fry (NSN: 0-123434), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Engineering and Diving Officer of a United States Submarine during a War Patrol in enemy Japanese-controlled waters. Alert and aggressive, Lieutenant Commander Fry rendered invaluable service to his Commanding Officer by maintaining his engineering plant in a high state of readiness at all times and, during evasion of enemy counterattacks, contributed materially to the success of the mission by his expert operations of diving control equipment. His technical ability, initiative and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Lieutenant Commander Fry and the United States Naval Service.
