The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Commander Edward Lee Foster (NSN: 0-70334), United States Navy, for meritorious achievement as Commanding Officer of the Destroyer U.S.S. McCALL (DD-400), in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Pacific War Area, from February 1943 to May 1944. Operating with Task Force ELEVEN during this period, Commander Foster rendered invaluable service in support of the Central Solomons campaign and, when his ship subsequently became a unit of Task Force FIFTY-EIGHT, contributed materially to our success in Fast Carrier strikes on Kwajalein, Eniwetok, Hollandia, Palau, Yap, Weleai Raids and the second Truk raid. By his professional skill, leadership and devotion to duty, Commander Foster upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
