The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Lieutenant Conrad Joseph Flessner, United States Navy, for meritorious service as Torpedo Data Computer Operator on board the U.S.S. BOWFIN (SS-287), during the NINTH War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy Japanese-controlled waters in the vicinity of the Japan Sea, from 29 May to 4 July 1945. Skillfully discharging his duties, Lieutenant Flessner rendered valuable assistance to his Commanding Officer in launching torpedo attacks to sink two hostile freighters, totaling 6,300 tons, and in evading all enemy countermeasures. His courage and devotion to duty upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. (Lieutenant Flessner is authorized to wear the Combat “V”.)
