The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Conrad Joseph Flessner, United States Navy, for gallantry and intrepidity in action in the performance of his duties aboard the U.S.S. BOWFIN (SS-287), during the SEVENTH War Patrol of that vessel in enemy-controlled waters from 25 January 1945 to 25 March 1945. His keen understanding of fire control equipment and proficiency in operating the computer were of valuable assistance to his Commanding Officer in sinking and damaging enemy naval vessels. His calm manner and devotion to duty were an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

Commander Submarine Forces Pacific: Serial 02241 (September 8, 1945)The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Lieutenant Conrad Joseph Flessner, United States Navy, for meritorious service as Torpedo Data Computer Operator on board the U.S.S. BOWFIN (SS-287), during the NINTH War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy Japanese-controlled waters in the vicinity of the Japan Sea, from 29 May to 4 July 1945. Skillfully discharging his duties, Lieutenant Flessner rendered valuable assistance to his Commanding Officer in launching torpedo attacks to sink two hostile freighters, totaling 6,300 tons, and in evading all enemy countermeasures. His courage and devotion to duty upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. (Lieutenant Flessner is authorized to wear the Combat “V”.)
