The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant (MC) Thomas T. Flaherty, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity on 14 September 1942, while attached to Marine Air Group TWENTY-FIVE in the Solomon Islands. In the evacuation of wounded by transport plane in the Solomon Islands area, Lieutenant Flaherty remained at his post despite continual bombing and strafing, to supervise in the loading and aid of wounded who were under his care. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
