The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Lieutenant Commander John Bauman Dudley, Jr. (NSN: 0-82568), United States Navy, for meritorious service as Assistant Approach Officer on the U.S.S. ATULE (SS-403), during the FOURTH War Patrol of that Submarine in the vicinity of Nanpo Shoto, from 3 July to 25 August 1945. By his excellent judgment and thorough knowledge of attack problems, Lieutenant Commander Dudley assisted his Commanding Officer in conducting successful attacks which resulted in the sinking and damaging of approximately 2,000 tons of enemy shipping. By his professional ability, courage and devotion to duty, he contributed directly to the success of his vessel in evading enemy countermeasures, and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. (Lieutenant Commander Dudley is authorized to wear the Combat “V”.)
