The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant William Creagh Dozier, Jr. (NSN: 0-123332), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the performance of his duties as Torpedo Data Computer Operator aboard the U.S.S. POMFRET (SS-392), during the THIRD War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy-controlled waters from 28 October 1944 to 11 December 1944. His keen understanding of fire control equipment and proficiency in operating it were of valuable assistance to his Commanding Officer in conducting successful attacks which resulted in sinking two enemy warships totaling approximately 2,000 tons, and damaging enemy freighters totaling some 10,000 tons. His calm manner and devotion to duty contributed directly to the success of his vessel. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
