    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Henry Donald Davison (NSN: 0-85052), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action as Executive Officer of the Destroyer U.S.S. CRAVEN (DD-382), in combat against enemy Japanese naval forces during an engagement in Vella Gulf, Solomon Islands, on the night of 6 – 7 August 1943. Fearlessly and relentlessly tracking hostile surface vessels, Lieutenant Davison supplied vital information to his Commanding Officer and the Gunnery Division with such speed and accuracy that his ship was able to deliver a devastating attack which contributed to the success of our Task Force in sinking one Japanese cruiser and three destroyers during this hazardous engagement. His courage, outstanding efficiency, and untiring devotion to duty were an inspiration to his officers and men and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
