The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class Charles C. Curry, Jr., United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action on November 8, 1942, while serving aboard the U.S.S. JOSEPH T. DICKMAN (APA-13) during the occupation of French Morocco, 8 – 11 November 1942. When his landing boat was wrecked on the rocks near Fedala, and several of his comrades were isolated near the beach throughout the day and subjected to attacks by hostile planes, Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class Curry, without assistance, and at great personal risk, administered to five wounded comrades, going to them during the day at widely separated places along the beach. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
