The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Pharmacist’s Mate Edward Burbage (NSN: 2625354), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy. Chief Pharmacist’s Mate Burbage, a Corpsman attached to the 40th Seabees (Naval Construction Battalion) attached to the BREWER Task Force in the invasion of the Admiralty Islands in May 1944, at great personal danger to himself and despite orders to remain in foxholes during darkness, left the security of his foxhole to administer to the wounded and dying, thereby exhibiting great courage and gallantry. This action was beyond the call of duty, and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
