The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class William F. Brim (NSN: 6336915), United States Naval Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Corpsman attached to a Marine Regiment of the SECOND Marine Division in action against enemy forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 18 June 1944. In charge of procuring supplies for the aid station, Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Brim repeatedly displayed extraordinary courage when, through intermittent sniper fire and frequent artillery barrages, he tirelessly carried medical supplies and water to the aid station. On the night of 18 June 1944, he bravely stood his post and, single-handed, engaged a Japanese officer in hand-to-hand combat. Though he sustained a broken arm in this fight, he administered first aid to a wounded comrade and remained at his post for the rest of the night. His courageous devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
