The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Commander Edward Conrad Blonts, Jr. (NSN: 0-82605), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Assistant Approach Officer of the Submarine U.S.S. HAMMERHEAD (SS-364), in action against enemy Japanese forces during the SECOND War Patrol of that vessel in the Pacific War Area, from 9 September to 2 November 1944. Skillfully performing his duties throughout this patrol, Lieutenant Commander Blonts rendered invaluable assistance to his commanding officer in pressing home attacks against enemy shipping. By his efficiency and courage in the face of grave hazards, he contributed materially to the success of each attack made by his ship and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
