The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” (Posthumously) to Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Donald Edmond Bansley (NSN: 2124309), United States Naval Reserve, for heroic service as a member of the Naval Forces attached to the U.S. Army Forces engaged in the Defense of the Philippines, 7 December 1941 to 6 May 1942. As a member of the medical personnel serving with the Fourth Regiment, U.S. Marines, in the final defense of the fortified islands, he assisted in an outstanding professional manner in the manning of the outlying first-aid stations, and was almost constantly exposed to long range shell fire and bombing during the period from 10 April to 6 May 1942. In the final assault on the beaches of Corregidor, he exposed himself repeatedly to rifle and machine gun fire in order to rescue, care for, and evacuate wounded Army, Marine and Filipino defenders of the island. His conduct was outstanding and heroic, and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. (Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Bansley is authorized the Combat “V”.)
