    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Torpedoman’s Mate Robert Anderson, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy as Chief Torpedoman’s Mate of the U.S.S. SILVERSIDES (SS-236) during four highly successful War Patrols of that Submarine in enemy controlled waters (1942 – 1943) which resulted in sinking 61,677 tons of enemy shipping and severely damaging 30,210 tons. His skill in maintaining his boat’s torpedo armament in a state of readiness for action greatly contributed to the success of his submarine. Further, as Senior Petty Officer aboard his judgment, courage, and leadership were of direct assistance to his Commanding Officer in maintaining a high state of fighting efficiency. His conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
