The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class Cecil Lawrence Adams (NSN: 8552710), United States Naval Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Corpsman attached to the Third Battalion, Eighth Marines, SECOND Marine Division, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands. While acting as a Company Corpsman on 19 June 1944, Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class Adams, during the night crawled forward of our lines to aid three men who had been badly wounded by enemy-thrown demolition charges and grenades. In great danger from enemy who had remained in the vicinity he not only rendered first aid, but also worked the wounded men back to our lines and supervised their evacuation. On 27 June 1944, Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class Adams was fatally wounded when he again went to the aid of a Marine who had been wounded by an enemy machine gun forward of our lines. His great courage and devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
