The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Theodore Montanye Ustick (NSN: 0-82315), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the performance of his duties as an Officer in the U.S.S. TARPON (SS-175) during SEVEN War Patrols of that Submarine during World War II. His outstanding performance of duty as Torpedo Data Computer Operator during the SIXTH War patrol (January 10 – February 25, 1943) contributed materially to the destruction of 21,000 tons of enemy shipping. On that patrol, seven hits were made which was a high tribute to his knowledge of the fire control problems. His excellent judgment, aggressive spirit, and coolness in emergencies were a constant reassurance to his Commanding Officer and an inspiration to the other officers and the crew. His conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
