The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Third Gold Star in lieu of a Fourth Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Commander Robert Wadsworth Peacher (NSN: 0-613863/1100), United States Navy, for heroism while participating in aerial flight while attached to Attack Squadron TWO HUNDRED TWELVE (VA-212), embarked in U.S.S. HANCOCK (CVA-19). On 26 May 1972, Commander Peacher led a major air wing strike against the Vong Bi highway bridges, strategic elements in the enemy’s logistic network spanning North Vietnam. On numerous occasions, Commander Peacher was forced to lead his strike group in the hazardous, yet successful, evasion of lethal surface-to-air missiles as well as a relentless hail of anti-aircraft artillery fire. His aerial aggressiveness, continual leadership, and superb navigation in the face of extremely adverse weather conditions proved to be the decisive factors in the outstanding level of success achieved by the main strike force. Commander Peacher’s superior airmanship and courage in the face of the enemy reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Commander Robert Wadsworth Peacher (NSN: 0-613863/1100), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action as a pilot of jet aircraft attached to Attack Squadron TWO HUNDRED TWELVE (VA-212), embarked in U.S.S. HANCOCK (CVA-19). On the morning of 8 July 1972, Commander Peacher led a major air wing strike against a vital military barracks near Hanoi in North Vietnam. Having planned an indirect route to minimize exposure to the numerous surface-to-air missile sites, he rendezvoused his force and proceeded inland only to find his navigation hampered by a persistent cloud layer and intense electronic activity. Deploying his anti-missile aircraft and flak suppressors effectively, the strike force enjoyed relatively light opposition as they neared the target and positioned themselves for their attacks. In an outstanding display of ordnance delivery, Commander Peacher placed his bombs precisely on target, contributing to its utter destruction. Commander Peacher’s heroic actions and skill reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Commander Robert Wadsworth Peacher (NSN: 0-613863/1100), United States Navy, for heroism while participating in aerial flight in action against the enemy as a pilot of jet aircraft while attached to Attack Squadron TWO HUNDRED TWELVE (VA-212), embarked in U.S.S. HANCOCK (CVA-19). On 6 April 1973, Commander Peacher gallantly led a section of A-4E aircraft on a strike mission in Southeast Asia to an area from which four surface-to-air missiles had just been fired. The flight visually acquired the launch sites, whereupon Commander Peacher and his wingman commenced devastating dive-bombing attacks on them. With little regard for his own personal safety, Commander Peacher delivered bombs and anti-radiation missiles directly on target despite intense anti-aircraft fire and being forced to evade five more surface-to-air missiles. His precision ordnance delivery resulted in the destruction of two missile launch sites and eliminated enemy opposition of this type to subsequent strikes in the area. Commander Peacher’s heroic actions reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Silver Star in lieu of a Sixth Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Commander Robert Wadsworth Peacher (NSN: 0-613863/1100), United States Navy, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a pilot of jet aircraft attached to Attack Squadron TWO HUNDRED TWELVE (VA-212), embarked in U.S.S. HANCOCK (CVA-19). On the afternoon of 11 July 1972, Commander Peacher was assigned as division leader on a major air wing strike against vital petroleum storage and transportation facilities in North Vietnam. Assigned one of the three targets in the complex, a pipeline crossing on a major river, Commander found his navigation hampered by a persistent cloud cover and intense electronic activity preceding the launch of numerous surface-to-air missiles. Despite the strenuous evasive maneuvers required to evade these missiles, and the extremely heavy anti-aircraft fire from the target area, Commander Peacher, in a precision attack, placed all his ordnance on target severing the pipeline and causing two large secondary explosions. Commander Peacher’s accuracy and courage reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
